Pixies
The Dustmakers
Pixies are small fey, only about as tall as a slice of bread standing on end. They could easily fit in the palm of a human’s hand. They commonly have insect-like wings, but otherwise appear much as humans do, except perhaps in a much wider variety of colors. Some have elf-like, slightly-pointed ears.
Pixies are small but are loaded with magical energy that sprinkles out of them nearly everywhere they go. No matter what they eat, pixies never produce waste like humans do. Their entire metabolism is designed around converting food into pixie dust and secreting it through their glands.
What purpose this pixie dust serves in the fey realm of Sennzia is completely unknown, even to gnomes. No creatures eat it or depend on it for survival, at least not so far as can yet be proven. The mystery of pixies and their dust has baffled fairies, elves and gnomes alive for millennia.
Pixies often go unnoticed by larger fey, as they are only about the size of a dragonfly and may easily be mistaken for an insect at a distance. Up close, however, there is no mistaking a pixie for a bug. They speak and make deals in the same meticulous and strange manner as other fey.
One significant difference between pixies and fairies, however, is that pixies mate and have children as mortals do. They are not created from wishes and can freely reproduce on their own, independently from the mortal realm. No one really knows how many pixies there are in Sennzia, but most estimates assume that for every pixie seen, there at least four or five others hiding somewhere nearby. Pixies may actually outnumber Sennzia’s fairies and elves combined.
